Prologue
At the beginning of the 20th century Tampere, a factory town attracts new citizens and the standard of living rises. The city is a combination of a modernizing urban environment and, on the other hand, a hamlet-like suburb. Industry is built on female labour. World War I turns Tampere into a garrison town and soon every tenth passer-by is a Russian soldier. In the surrounding countryside the question of tenant farmers and land reform is becoming an issue. Finnish people become more actively interested in politics and public participation increases. In the March of 1917 the Russian revolution sets off and the imperial power is thrown. Struggle for power begins.
